Why I voted Yes on H.Con.Res 127
August 02, 2012
I voted Yes on H.Con.Res. 127, which would express the sense of Congress that it is the consistent and unequivocal policy of the United States to preserve and advance the multi-stakeholder governance model under which a free Internet has thrived.
Some countries are considering expanding the jurisdiction of the United Nation's International Telecommunication Union, which currently regulates the international operation of traditional telephone service, to apply to the Internet. This resolution is intended to make a clear statement that Congress opposes any attempts to regulate the Internet in such a manner and instead should maintain the multi-stakeholder governance model that promotes a global Internet free from government control.
H.Con.Res 127 was approved by a vote of 414 - 0.
