Why I voted Yes on H.R. 1038
I voted Yes on H.R. 1038, to authorize the conveyance of two parcels of land within Coconino National Forest.
H.R. 1038 would authorize the Forrest Service to convey two very small parcels of land within the Coconino National Forest in Arizona to landowners holding interests in the adjacent land. The landowners would be required to pay the government in return for the two parcels.
An erroneous survey conducted in 1960 led landowners to develop parcels of lands that comprise three acres. A later survey conducted in 2007, however, revealed that these lands were in fact located within the National Forest. This bill seeks to rectify the situation by permitting the Forest Service to sell the lands in question to the affected landowners.
The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office estimates that the bill will have no impact on the federal budget.
The bill was approved by a vote of 421 – 1.
